Individual Psychotherapy

for eating disorders and much more

After 20 something years of running an eating disorder treatment center, I am thrilled to get back to my true love, individual therapy.  I offer convenient tele-therapy sessions on a wide variety of issues.  While I have significant experience and expertise in the treatment of Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorders,  I also have over 20 years of experience in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, personality disorders and family discord. While sessions are typically 50 minutes in length, we will collaborate together to see what best fits your needs. Because I am not on any insurance panels at the moment, we are not under the rigid and intrusive care guidelines they impose when they play gatekeeper to your mental health.

As a leader in the field of eating disorder treatment, I can support those who are in the all stages of confronting their relationship with food, body image and self esteem. I can even help you figure out if you even have an eating disorder or if you want to even consider letting it go.  I am here to work through the pros and cons.  I have supported those struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulima Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorders with low self esteem and negative  body image or body shame intrusiveness.   I operate from a HAES perspective and believe in the concepts of intuitive eating and full recovery.  I offer unique out-of-the-box interventions and see you as far more than your eating disorder.  I also try to bring in humor whenever possible to offset the seriousness that these diseases present. I am an authentic therapist and you will get the same Rachel as my friends, neighbors and family get.  Therapy will be interactive and collaborative.  All I ask is that you show up, come as you are and we will work with what appears.

A little about tele-therapy –

Although most activities we engage in these days have a “virtual” component that we have adapted to, speaking to a therapist remotely  might feel unusual for some people reluctant to be on  camera or not sharing the same physical space to help facilitate reading social cues and body language. I have found that with the correct  set up, virtual sessions can mimic the intimacy of in-person therapy.  We will have clear guidelines to support strict confidentiality as well as protocols for potential emergency situations.  Finally, I hope you find that the convenience and time saving benefits of virtual psychotherapy allow for more consistency.

Professional Eating Disorder Training and Consultation non-traditional settings  | Special interest in collaboration with Wilderness Programs

Often times, eating disorders are masked by other issues including alcohol and drug use, or other behavioral or educational issues.  Sometimes, individuals find themselves in a treatment environment where they have been able to resolve their substance use issue only to have an eating disorder show up to fill the vacuum.  Unfortunately, its common that these non-eating disorder treatment settings are not trained or equipped to manage the unique trickery of an eating disorder.   That is where I come in.  I offer the following trainings and services so that you can continue to serve your clients or know when it’s inappropriate.

Provide eating disorder assessments and adjunct therapy when appropriate for current clients.

Provide aftercare case management by either providing treatment myself or identifying an appropriate next level of care for the client.

Evaluate intake materials to ensure you are assessing for eating disorders that don’t necessarily want to be found.

Train staff on basic protocol including nutrition support and guidelines.

Work with educational consultants and families in accessing appropriate treatment.

Help with the evaluation of the acuity of a client’s eating disorder and staff’s ability to manage within your procedures.

Provide family psychoeducation on the complexity of the disease, treatment options, family system issues and support including navigating the insurance maze and advocacy to obtain authorization for the appropriate level of care.

Assistance with the appeal process, including the ins and outs of ED-specific utilization, reviews as well as Department of Managed Care Independent Medical Review
